Romantic insecurity is an explanation for this. Insecure partners tend to find it very difficult to trust their partners, they almost “expect” to be hurt or abandoned, and they don’t believe that their partner would want to be with them (they often have low self-esteem and self-belief). Because of this, insecure partners live in fear – they are afraid that their partner will hurt or abandon them and they are constantly vigilant and hypersensitive to this. They can also try to “control” their partner’s actions – in an effort to avoid being hurt (which they sort of “expect” to happen). Being away from their partner literally panics them – because they don’t feel “safe” or “comfortable” when their partner isn’t by their side.

Such insecurity usually stems from how we’ve been brought up in our childhoods.
