      Hi Kira,
If you mean do therapy as a job, I have often thought it would be a fantastic job! My research especially has made me very interested in this as a career, because speaking to so many people who are suffering from psychological issues (especially young people) has made me see how important it is to try to find ways to solve these problems…
If you mean have I ever had anything in my career that has made me need to get therapy myself, then thankfully no! Lots of psychologists do have to get therapy themselves as part of their job (especially councillors, clinical psychologists, those who work with people who have been abused etc), but my work isn’t that traumatic thankfully. I’d certainly go though if I felt things were getting on top of me and I wanted to talk them through with someone…

Hi Kira, Therapy is a great job and it must be very rewarding to help people to change their experiences for the better. There are also a range of therapies that you can explore and specialise in, as well as particular clients with particular issues. If you’re interested in a career as a therapist, have a look at the British Psychological Society website, where they offer lots of advice and information about Psychology careers.

      Yes.

My career has brought me to go into therapy as a journey of self-exploration. I trained for a couple of years in psycho-dynamic counselling – just because I find it fascinating. This meant that I had to go into group therapy for a whole year. I found it a fascinating learning experience, about myself, about others, and about relationships (especially my part in them).

I have also been in therapy a number of times and I have found it a wonderful tool for developing self-insight and for understanding how many of the theories I study help to explain…me.

In terms of being a therapist – yes too. I actually plan to continue studying this avenue and to practice myself one day – for sure.
