Wow, great question! I think my students would be able to give you some great advice on that! Being able to do research is a great skill to have – a lot of companies value it very highly. To get to that stage though, you’d have to do a psychology degree (or a related subject such as neuroscience or biology) and then you could work as a research assistant, where you would work for someone, helping out with their research.
If you wanted to work on your own research (i.e. where you come up with the ideas!), you would have to do another degree (a post-graduate degree) usually specifically in psychology. After this you could work on a research project, or you could do a PhD where you’d spend 3 or 4 years working on your own project. This would allow you to work in a university, or for a company where you could do research. Sometimes charities look for psychology researchers, big companies look for researchers and statisticians (they are usually well paid!) or you can teach and do some research too in a university.
Hope this helps but let me know if you have any other questions 🙂
