I’m sorry Alex, I have’t read or watched Twilight much, so Ben might answer better! What happened with the character Jacob? If you say a little more about the storyline I might be able to give you some answers 🙂
Thanks M1609! Yeah I’ve heard rumours he’s ‘shady’! 😉 Right I’ve done a bit of research and here’s what I’ve learned about the Edward-Bella-Jacob love triangle…
As I understand things (based on my limited Twilight knowledge), Bella picked Edward in the end even though Jacob loved her more than he did. Jacob told Bella that he thought Edward was like a drug for her. Psychologically speaking, I think he had a point. There is a psychologist called Helen Fisher (she has a great TedTalks if you’re interested) who works in the area of relationships – love, lust, attraction, fidelity and so on. She conducted a series of studies that showed that the same chemicals (dopamine and norepinephrine) in the brain are active when we fall in love, as with taking certain addictive drugs. So if we compare the experience of falling in love with the experience of being addicted to drugs, perhaps we can gain insight into Bella’s choice. Edward was her first love, so these feelings may have been all the more strong. That’s not to say she made the right choice (I think you’re right M1609, she should have gone for Jacob!) Now, I don’t know enough about the stories, but I think Axel might be right too, that Jacob ended up in the friend zone (but friends are important too, right?) 🙂
